POST 8: READING HABITS

Hello today i going to talk you about my reading habits. Lately I read books from time to time, in moments that university and my social life leaves me free time haha. The truth is that when I was little I only read the books that the school asked me to read and I enjoyed it. When I grew up I got the taste to do it on my own and look for books that made me curious. I don't have a count of how many books I’ve read in my life, but I know that I have read several.

The types of books I like to read lately are feminist themed, stories about women, written by women, also environmentalism, history and even a bit of philosophy. I read a lot of nonfiction in the pandemic, and now I need a breather so I'm reading a novel to escape reality for a moment with the help of fiction.

I don't have a favorite author, but I have really enjoyed Marcela Serrano's books, as well as Yuval Harari. My favorite book of 2020 was The Three Ecologies by Felix Guattari, I liked the fact that it was a book of 89 but that it deals with things that are still on the lips and that took even more importance. That it talked about the relevance of "Ecosophy" in the context of the climate crisis.  In fact, talking about this, it made me want to read it again haha.

The last book I read was Without Fear by Judith Butler, I really enjoyed it, I started reading it while I was working as an examiner at the PTU and it accompanied me on subway rides and dead hours at work so I finished reading it in about five days. The book has a compilation of Judith's conferences where she talks about justice, dissidences and criticism, looks at the current landscape of migrants and the lives they are “worth”. It is super enlightening.

PD: This is the last blog, so thank you teacher for your dedication and patience with us!!

POST 8: CHANGES TO MY STUDY PROGRAMME

When we start the engineering in renewable natural resources, in the career calculus one, two and three plus algebra and linear algebra are studied, subjects that could be compacted in less to be able to advance faster to courses that are more related to the career, because just in third year we began to see subjects that have been more useful to understand our future work with subject more akin to our career.

As for the study load over the years, I think it has gone well, but the duration of the career should be shorter, I am already in the fourth year and I would like to finish everything soon. I know that in other countries university career are much shorter than in Chile. Perhaps the universitys should reevaluate the duration.

My campus is very beautiful, it called Antumapu, but it could improve the infrastructure of the student centers and the environment of that building, this place is very abandoned, there are broken chairs, the tacas-tacas are very old, and the floor has holes. There are also rooms where the heat is very unbearable in summer. In addition, in the computer rooms there are some bad computers, sometimes you run out computer or have to share it. So this things we need to change.

In relation to teaching methods in general, I find that I have had a good experience, only that I had to adapt to the ways of teaching of some teachers. But in general I have managed to learn what I need from the subjects.

TIME TRAVEL TO THE PAST

Today we are going to travel in the time, i would like go to the past, to france, at the time of the French revolution. Becouse it’s an important moment in history, where a society structure is breaks down to build something new. I’d like to go with my best friend Lea. I’d to take a tour of the iconic places where the revolution takes place, I would like to attend meetings and assemblies, talk with disruptive people of the time and then flee when violent scenes occur.

Although I would like to travel to that time, it would not be a moment in history where I would like to stay, I think that although it is an iconic moment, it was also full of violence and repression, therefore, it would not be very comfortable to live forever in a stark time in history.

If I had the machine with me I would keep traveling constantly hahaha, I would also like to travel to archaic Greece, go inside to understand and live their mythological interpretation and life. I would also travel to Araucania before the Spanish Conquest, to see the free wallmapu and live the Mapuche lifestyle and consmovision prior to conquest.

How wonderful it would be to have a time machine…

MY FUTURE JOB

The kind of work that i would like to have could be in something related to remote sensing and ecology studies. I’m considering to work building baselines for the projects that are sent to the Environmental Impact Assessment. Also, I’d like to work in the review of projects from the Environmental Assessment Service or do some work for the environment ministry, each of the possibilities that i mention probably have outdoors and indoors moments. My career is very dispersed, so throughout the career oneself must do the road. For me that is good and bad at the same time. For the same reason, i don’t close myself to any possibility, so if you ask me if I'd like to work in a government office, in a university or in a big company, i would answer that I'd like to work in all of them. And of course, I’d love travel to a lot of parts in the world and more if it's because my job allows it.

Now I'm in fourth year of my career so my short-term goals will find a good professional practice and finish the thesis, my long-term goals would be studying a postgraduate. I have in mind to do a postgraduate in my own faculty, there is one that catches my attention, it's called territorial management of natural resources.

Let's see what happens…

ART

If you ask me why art is important, my answer would be that life without art is just bah ...

I think that use diferent forms of expression allows opening a world of possibilities to communicate without necessarily speaking.

My best artistic skills could be painting with acrylic, has been what i have done lately when i was bored in the pandemic. I also realized that it was interesting for me to write poems, so i participated in a Slime poetry contest from Endemico magazine, arrive to the end, but i didn't win, anyway it was entertaining. When i had ten years old, i learned play guitar, so now i play when i have free time and inspiration. Actually, all the desire to connect with my artistic side comes in my free time.

Los lirios, Vicent Van Gogh.1889

My favorite expressions of art are music and painting, i think it is pleasant to listen to any type of music, as well as to take the time to go to look at artworks in museums. As for the most recognized artists worldwide, i think the painter that most draw my attention is Vicent Van Gogh. I have investigated his biography and some of his paintings, talking of him i think about the beauty and madness.

Besides in the context of virtuality on Instagram i follow young artists who paint like Morgan Gray, Linsey Kelly, Maus Haus, i like the shape of their designs, the colors and in general their works.

THE BEST HOLIDAY I'VE HAD

When i started university i met friends who have been the best classmates i could choose. Sometime we talk about to travel anyplace.  Until one day we decide the destination. Go to Bolivia and travel as much as we can.

So we save up money during one year and in the summer of 2020 (before the pandemic) we go for!

Six friends traveled: sofi, cata, fefo, salo, fran, isa and I 💚

We were in Bolivia for sixteen days, we toured various cities like La Paz, Isla del Sol, Copacabana, Rurenabaque, Oruro and Uyuni. The activities we did were riding a bicycle on the death road, riding a boat, hiking a lot, walking around the cities, partying, we went on a tour in the Yacuma river on Rurrenabaque, the Oruro festival and took photos in the Uyuni salt flat.

This holidays has been the best because i could know so many places, with amazing friends, and in a beautiful and diverse country. Also, it was the last holidays before the pandemic started so i remember it like a breath before being locked up for so many months, it was my consolation hahaha.

MY CHILDHOOD

Being honest when i was a child i loved to drink milk or Milo in a baby bottle, in facts i prolong its use as long as possible . So now when i drink Milo in the té hour i comeback to the beatifulls and relaxings afternoon in the living room of my home seeing a movie on disney channel or discovery kids accompanied by my beloved baby bottle.

My first memory of my childhood is about the eternals afternoons playing in the street out my house with all my little neighbours. When i was 3 years old my family and me move out at a home and sinse that time i meet my chillhood friends who were my neigbours too.

In this same neighborhood i learned to ride a bike. My father taught me when i was 5 years old. I've always liked riding my bicycle, when i learned to ride without help wheels with my neighbour friends (we) played racing. I still remember my first bike. I inherited it from my middle brother.

Most of my childhood memories give me a nice feeling because i enjoyed it a lot playing with my friends and brothers. Also my parents always pampered me for being the youngest of three brothers.
